Project Title: DDHK: Connected City – Hong Kong Stories
Category: Event Design / Exhibition Design / Stage Design
“Connected City: Hong Kong Stories” is an immersive exploration of Hong Kong’s rich cultural heritage, presented by Design District Hong Kong (DDHK). This event showcases local emerging designers and fashion teams who use their creations to tell the story of the city. With a focus on both indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces, the project blends storytelling with innovative design to captivate and inspire attendees. As the designer responsible for this immersive experience, my role spanned the creation of the event’s 3D visuals, stage design, and multimedia content.
The challenge was to create an event that encapsulated the vibrancy, energy, and cultural diversity of Hong Kong through both fashion and design. The fashion show, held at Lai Chi Kok D2, needed to create an environment that symbolized the city’s bustling streets, while also providing a dynamic backdrop for the local designers’ creations. Additionally, I was tasked with ensuring a seamless integration of technology to enhance the immersive experience for attendees.
At the heart of this project, I embraced a vision of immersive storytelling, ensuring that every aspect of the design—stage, exhibition booths, and lighting—told the story of Hong Kong. The fashion show at Lai Chi Kok D2 was conceptualized to evoke a sense of light and speed, drawing inspiration from the city’s fast-paced streets. The design used mirrors as reflective surfaces to create dynamic visuals that amplified the speed and vibrancy of Hong Kong’s culture. A sound and light backdrop added an extra layer of depth, mimicking the rhythmic energy of the city’s urban landscape.
The “Connected City: Hong Kong Stories” event was a success in bringing together the best of Hong Kong’s emerging designers and fashion talent while offering a truly immersive experience for attendees. The design elements, including the reflective surfaces, dynamic sound and light displays, and 3D visual presentations, effectively conveyed the energy of Hong Kong’s streets and urban landscape. The video recap also became a valuable asset for DDHK, preserving the event’s legacy and inspiring future projects.
“Connected City: Hong Kong Stories” served as a powerful testament to the creative potential of Hong Kong’s fashion and design community. By blending immersive stage design, cutting-edge 3D visuals, and dynamic multimedia, I was able to create a unique, visually stunning experience that transported the audience into the heart of the city. As a designer, my goal was to ensure that every element of the event told the story of Hong Kong, and through thoughtful design, I helped bring this vision to life in an unforgettable way.
